Air Conditioning

If possible, please turn off the aircon when you leave the room. If the aircon does not work, try moving the batteries in the remote. There is also a light icon on the remote that turns on/off the blue aircon light. If you are interested in who invested the Air Conditioning Unit, it was Willis Carrier in 1902 to protect paper and ink in the publishing industry.

Adaptors

Forgot your adaptor at home? Don’t worry! We have a box full of them, just ask the staff.

Astronomy

If you fancy losing yourself in the night sky, check out this page to get a solid overview of which planets are visible between which times.

Aerial Yoga

We have aerial hammocks in the gym that you can use for free. We also have an instructor, however, her availability depends on many factors as she lives in Bangkok. Talk to our staff if you’d like to arrange a structured introduction to Aerial Yoga.

Aviary

Tree Roots Retreat has a variety of parrots and birds in the aviary near the pool table. They love human interaction, so please go and say hello. The African Grey is called Jack. Please don’t go into the aviary until Aaron has shown you the process.

Bananas

There are always bananas in the kitchen. Eat them, they are good for you!

Beach

Mae Rum Peung beach is a five minute walk away. Make the effort to get down there and enjoy what the ocean has to offer.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

If you are Interested in flow, movement, meditation, or mindfulness in action, then Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is for you. Tree Roots Retreat is the Asian HQ for the Crazy Monkey Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brand. This experience is highly recommended for anyone looking to have a “breakthrough” moment. We also have a unique Vitamin Jits program aimed to give you all you need for a daily dose of happiness and vitality.

Breakfast

Every morning from 7:00 AM in the Coffee Shop & Kitchen next to the library, you’ll find fresh fruit, homemade jams, bread, yoghurt and cereal. There is also marmite, bovril and vegemite. If there is something particular that you would like, please let us know and we will do our best to make it happen. We have no meat at the retreat but if you would like to buy some bacon from 7/11, there is a gas stove in the kitchen that you can use.

Coffee

We are all coffee lovers at Tree Roots Retreat and we have many options for you. There’s always fresh percolated coffee in the kitchen. There are also two commercial grinders if you want to use the fancy coffee machine. If you’re not sure how to use it, one of the staff will give you a quick lesson. You also have a personal red boncafe machine in your room with two complimentary espresso capsules. If you require more, we sell the capsules at 40 baht each, just ask the staff.

Check Out

Unless we are fully booked and we have someone taking your room the same day, you can check out as late as you wish.

Children

We have a “no children” policy at the retreat.

Crazy Monkey Boxing

Just like with jiu-jitsu, this is a great experience for anyone who’s interested in flow & movement. Visit our Classes page to schedule a private session with our experienced trainers.

Credit Cards

If you would like to pay by credit/debit card, please know that we need to add 3% to the final bill.

Dogs

There are unfortunately a lot of street dogs along the beach. They have a hard time and if they show aggression it’s because they have a sad story to tell. Don’t run, don’t panic and remain calm if you come across a rather aggressive dog. Much like humans, their aggression comes from insecurity and fear.

Drinks

There is a drinks fridge in the gym. There is a honesty box inside for you place money for anything you take. All cans and sodas are 30 baht each and water is 10 baht per bottle. There will be two free water bottles placed in your room each day.

Diving

Scuba diving trips can be arranged. Please speak to Aaron for more information.

Delicious Food

All along the beach are amazing seafood restaurants with fresh food. You can also have food delivered straight to your room with the menu provided in each room. Our favorite restaurants in the area THE WHITE HOUSE and THE PIER CAFE. There’s also a fresh market in Nai Rai every Tuesday & Saturday and an incredible wet market in Ban Phe is a great day out. Ask Aaron for directions if you need.

Discreet

This is a retreat so please be mindful of other people after 11:00 PM and keep things discreet. If you happen to be the only person in the retreat, then GO CRAZY and pump up the music.

Emergency Exit

In the unlikely situation there’s an emergency such as a fire, then run in the opposite direction to the fire. If you notice someone is trapped or needs help, then stop, breath, and be a hero. You’ll never forgive yourself if you don’t.

Environment

The retreat is surrounded by jungle, as such, you may see a variety of beautiful creatures. Keep your distance and let them pass. They were here before us. If you find a creature in your room, please leave the room and call Aaron or one of the staff to help. Chances are it wants to get out of the room as quick as you.

Family

Not spoken to your family for a few weeks or longer? Give them a call and let them know you miss them.

Fire Precautions

Please make your way calmly away from the fire and if possible, notify Aaron immediately (087-884-2122).

Fitness Center

The fitness center/gym is available to you for free 24/7. If there’s any equipment you would like to use but don’t know how, ask Aaron. By using the gym you adhere to the below …

  • I/We hereby understand and acknowledge that the training, programs and events held by Tree Roots Retreat may expose me to many inherent risks. Including accidents, injury, illness or even death.

  • I/We assume all risk of injuries associated with participation including, but not limited to, falls, contact with other participants, the effects of the weather including high heat and/or humidity and all other such risks being known and appreciated by me.

  • After having read this waiver and knowing these facts, and in consideration of acceptance of my participation and Tree Roots Retreat furnishing services to me, I agree, for myself and anyone entitled to act on my behalf, to HOLD HARMLESS, WAIVE AND RELEASE Tree Roots Retreat and its officers, agents, employees, organizers, representatives and successors from any responsibility, liabilities, demands or claims of any kind arising out of my participation in the Tree Roots Retreat training programs and/or events.

Fire Pit

We have a fire pit at the top end of the retreat. It’s a great place to spend the evening and relax. There’s also a functioning kitchen to cook food and a pool table.

Frogs

There are many different types of frogs around the retreat. Please don’t lick or kiss them, nothing will happen.

Housekeeping

If you need anything at all to make your room more comfortable, please ask the staff. They will get you whatever you need.

The Wifi is sponsored by Movaci. You can either scan the QR code in your room for instant access or enter the password to the TRR network which is TRR@2020!

Library

Tree Roots Retreat has possibly the largest private library in Thailand. Please take some time to smell the books.

Pets

All pets stay for free.

Surfing

We run the Rayong Surf School from the Tree Roots Retreat. We have surfboards, SUP’s and canoes for hire. Aaron is the resident surf coach and is happy to take you for a surfing lesson if the weather permits. Please visit our Classes page to arrange a group or individual session.

Spirit House

In Thai tradition, the spirit house (Jao Tee) is where the spirit of the land lives. When the sun sets, it’s a magical place to sit and meditate. If go there and “let go”, you will feel something. If you want to make a donation to the spirit house, he likes strawberry Fanta and all fruits and vegetables. You can also arrange a meditation and breathing session with Aaron at the spirit house as the sun sets.

Tsumani

Aaron (the owner and creator of Tree Roots) is the sole survivor of his group of his group of the 2004 Tsunami while on Koh Phi Phi. His best-selling book, “And Then One Morning” is available for sale at the Retreat (450 baht for a signed copy).
